RAINY DAYS

For most people rainy days represent dark moods, cancelled plans and low energy along with just about every other depressing thing. For equestrians, that low feeling can be multiplied times ten. Rain seems to disrupt and diminish everything we’ve been looking forward to and yet I have to admit when I take an honest look at my past everything I forged ahead with during the rain turned out to be some of the most remarkable and enjoyable experiences; some that I expect to remember for a lifetime. THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPERLY FITTED TACK

Deciding exactly what saddle and bridle is appropriate for your discipline is hard enough (especially if you plan on showing), but you must also be just as certain regarding how well your equipment fits your horse. Unfortunately, this matter is often taken much too lightly with the most attention paid to simply how trendy or stylish something looks rather than whether it feels right to the horse or even the rider.  WEEKEND WARRIORS

You’d like to spend each and every day with your beloved horse but work, family and a multitude of responsibilities combine to make it impossible for you to attend to your horse through the week.  For those who can’t squeeze out that time each day let me offer a few suggestions that might help you make the most of the precious time you do get to spend with your horse. WHEN IT COMES TO HORSES THERE IS NO DOWN TIME

I used to tell people this referring to green horses or those who were needing to be reprogrammed meaning that no matter what you were doing with the horse it was a learning experience but one day I had a client put things into a more aware perspective. Read More...

SUPER SPRING TWENTY TWELVE

Hey wait a minute… what happened to winter?

Here in SoCal our temps this past season have varied from 60’s to mostly 80’s and makes one wonder, what on earth will spring bring to us? You’ll want to be sure and be ready. Now’s the time to check your fly spray supplies, get that cooling vest you’ve promised yourself (featured in Products We Love) and be sure your horse has a great water supply.

I can’t complain about the weather, which is providing a lovely climate for plenty of fun at the ranch. Lots of great people coming to our monthly “free”workshops on horse care. If you’re in the L.A. area be sure to check it out on our “Events” page and join the Backyardhorseman Meetup for getting yourself on the list!

We have super exciting news… by late spring we’re slated to launch our first book titled… HORSE CENTS, A Sensible Guide for the Equestrian Enthusiast! Our very own Deborah Dawn is the editor, (she keeps me in line already so it’s only natural, lol). You’ll want to be on the lookout for it because it’s packed with decades of horse experience dedicated to saving you a great many headaches. Be watching this space for its announcement; should provide for some great summer reading!

Spring forward!
